Good God, I know every footstep that Film shows with its "Tour of Barrhead"! I'm going back when I was Ten Year Old......1945. Little did I know then I would be Proprietor of the Arthurlie Inns, featured in the Film . I'll need to get a "copy film" for my Family Scrap Book! These days are so P{recipes and a great part go Barrhead's History.

There's quite simply nowhere like it. I've lived overseas for the best past of 30 years, and currently I'm sitting in our summer place in Lisbon, but if somebody asks, and I tell them I'm from Liverpool, they instantly brighten up.

I've always believed the Titanic could easily have passed the Iceberg and had better visibility than people make it out to be. Even a top speed the turning circle was enormous making the ship's ability to turn quickly and widely an easy task. Nobody seems to ask - why - did the Titanic hit an Iceberg? I have heard very bad answers that doesn't much water. As for Lord, some of his answers in the American inquiry was strange. Some contradictions and deceptive language was used especially around the subject of him leaving the bridge to go to his quarters to rest, etc.

Grew up in St. Helens. I was of a more slight build, but a lot of my friends played rugby league at a high level so were on the more muscly side. Nothing that nasty happened to them but we’d frequently see him around town and he’d always come over and start squeezing biceps, etc. Aki became quite infatuated with a member of the Knowles family who lived round my way. So much so, he used to hang around outside the Knowles house at all hours. Needless to say, Daddy Knowles eventually got a tad fed up with this, and chased Aki with a pitch fork. So many stories it’s difficult to separate the myth from the truth but how he has survived for long without something permanent happening to him baffles me. I know he ended up in Preston Prison at some point and of course got beaten to within an inch of his life, so the story goes.

Other ships in the area had their wireless shut off for the night and waiting for daylight - the was that much ice.Even if they knew they couldn't get there except thru the ice that had just punched holes in the largest ship afloat.The Ships owners said under no circumstances were they to risk going thru ice flows at night

Good old Liverpool. Born in Venmore St right opposite the Kop in 1958. It is a place that never leaves you ( bit like the Christian Brothers), you spend your life trawing through things to do with the docks, the landing stage, the sea, and yet (like a big mac) it don't matter how much you consume and digest, you remain hungry for more. It's a melancholy sickness for the past and what no longer remains, apart from our memories.I ain't been back in 12 years. I don't want to spoil the illusion. If you remember the Pier Head and the Princes Landing Stage in the early 1960's you'll know exactly what |I mean. Sorry to rant.

My mother Family are from Capel Celyn, if they wanted to make our island more beautiful they should have flooded Liverpool !! Cofiwch Dryweryn !!

They should come and do a follow up and show everybody what a sh***ole it is now!! Promised everything, given nothing, got to fight to even get them to cut the grass, even in the housing estates. People used to come from miles around to walk on the Beacon, now, you're lucky if you can find anywhere that's fit to walk on and their excuse is, 'it's for the wildlife!!' There's more and more wildlife being hit by cars because the boundaries that they once had, have all disappeared and they are wandering onto the roads to get to what they see as a continuation of their territory!!! All because this council is only interested in lining it's own pockets with all the 'affordable' houses being built, as far as the eye can see. Time they spent a bit of time looking at the older estates and looking how they can be brought into this century and give the town what it needs!!!

Nearly 100 years on and they are still debating about excavation of the amphitheater because of a building built around the time of this film!! How frustrating, it’s my city and that of my fathers and grandfathers but we take it for granted until it’s too late and gone, please excavate the amphitheater and put Chester back on the map for the best of reasons. Great film, thanks for posting it.

When you hear the stat that France abolished this in 1887 and Poland abolished this in 1773... It puts it massively into perspective on how behind the UK was.. Thank goodness for people that saw sense like Bill Pobjoy - it's hard to think this was only 43 years ago, you wonder about how many cycles of beatings were allowed to happen for so long..

Bill shankly was a special man a good man and the people loved him from all clubs .....he was honest and spoke a language that people could understand ...as a man manager there has never been anyone better ...and it's pretty certain there ever will be He was a complete one off ... i wish i could have met him and chatted with him over a cup of tea
